Chief Photos – Santos House Party – CMJ 2009

Finally catching up on some photos from CMJ. First up, a few shots of Domino Record’s latest signing Chief. Unfortunately I ended up stuck in a cab for the majority of Chief’s set but I did manage to shoot for a song and a half at the end. I even managed to shoot off a few experimental shots on kodak t-max 3200 iso B&W film as well. I honestly don’t know much about Chief but they’re not exactly what you would expect of a Domino band. During the show I described their sound as ‘mature’ (in a good way) and further likened them to KOL (also in a good way) I might end up taking that comparison back but in the meantime it’ll do…hmmm! Anywho, check out their myspace page and come up with your own damn opinion.

Stumbled upon this 11 minutes of awesomeness from 1972. The SX-70 truly is a thing of beauty. I absolutely *love* my SX-70 sonar, it’s built like a beautiful and very well designed brick. Apparently this lil infomercial was created by Charles and Ray Eames who also created my dream chair. someday…someday.

I’ve been trying to find this video again for a while now. It’s a great current.tv “pod” about photojournalist Dan Eldon. The piece pretty much speaks for itself, so i’ll let it do just that. Be forewarned as the video contains some rather graphic images of wartime and famine.

If you want to learn more about Dan I’d recommend these two books:
The Journey is the Destination: The Journals of Dan Eldon
and Dan Eldon: The Art of Life. I picked up the later the other day and so far it’s a great read.
